DIY: Braid Headband

One thing I love about sewing is that you can be as creative as you think. After sewing on some dresses, you might think of throwing away those excess fabrics you cut. But wait, you can actually turn it into this cute braid headband.

Materials:

Excess fabric from whatever project you are on right now
1" garter (4 inches in length)

Directions:

1. Take 3 strips of those excess fabric and braid it the way you want it, sewing on the edges to hold.

2. Attach garters on both ends.

3. Cover the part where you attached the garter to the braided fabric.

Voila! From scrap to awesome headband!

DIY: Mini Dress for Little Girls

My niece, Arianne, is 4-month-old and her hair is so thin. We have to dress her up to make her look like a girl. So I decided to make a dress for her.

This dress requires little fabric and it's easy to do. Aside from the fact that it's cute, it's comfy.

Materials:

100% floral cotton fabric
Ponytail garter

Directions:

1. Cut a semi-circle on the fabric, the radius of your preference.
Figure 2: Semi-circle cut

2. Sew edges allowing a space to insert the ponytail garter. (#1 on Figure 2)

3. Sew a garter space (where you'll insert garter to make a ruffle look) 3 inches below the top edge. (#2 on Figure 2)

4. Sew the open edges together. (#3 on Figure 2)

5. Do an edging on the bottom edge. (#4 on Figure 2)

6. For the strap, take 6 strips of excess fabric. Braid 3 strips per strap and attach on the top edge.

There you have your very own mini dress!

DIY: Heart-print Canvas Mini-Purse

I love making my own purse using canvas fabric because aside from it's texture, you can actually paint and customize it.

This little purse is very convenient to use especially for those who wanted their bags organized. You can store up little things from pins to coins. This is a quick sew and uses very little fabric.

MATERIALS:

Fabric: Canvas, silk (floral print) and pongee (white) fabric 9x5 inch
Textile paint: Red
Zipper: 5 inch long
Pencil
Piece of paper

DIRECTIONS:

1. Align the canvas and silk cloth together with both wrong sides facing out.
2. Sew the both sides of the cloth. (the longer side)
This is how it will look like after sewing them together right side facing out.
3. Align the pongee with the sewn cloth and pin it with both wrong side facing out.

4. Sew both side. (the longer side)
5. After sewing, this is how it will look turning the right side out.
6. Iron to flatten.
7. Fold it in half. Put a piece of paper (magazine) inside so the paint won't leak on the other side of the cloth.
8. To print, cut out a heart shape on a piece of paper and place it on top of the cloth where you want to print.

9. Dip the eraser of the pencil in the textile paint and start printing around the heart shape paper.
10. Print the way you want it. Remove the paper when you're done. This is how I painted mine.
11. Sew the zippers on.
12. Turn the right side in and sew open sides.

13. When done, turn the right side out.

Heart-print Canvas Mini-purse
Voila! You're done with your very one printed canvas purse!

Now store it up with those little buddies scattered inside your bag or fill it with spare changes from bus rides!

DIY: Reversible Purse

Reversible Purse
I was cutting fabrics yesterday to make a Charlie bag when I decided to experiment on the excess fabrics. Ta da! I made a reversible purse which I can use to store up some of my sewing materials.

DIY: Make Up Brush Wallet

Make Up Brush Wallet

Saw one of this on Pinterest so I decided to make one! And yay! It's overly awesome! I wasn't able to take pictures while I was just sewing, sadly, but these are the materials I used:

Silk Cloth printed (floral trees) 7x8 inches
Canvass Cloth 7x8 inches
Blue and Green Textile Paint (zigzag paint)
Blue button

If you want to make your own, I suggest you paint the canvass the way you want it. And just experiment on the sewing! (Just like what I did.)

I'll try this again tomorrow and I'll be sure to take pictures so I could show you how I made this step by step.

By the way, you may want to check this blog: diy-makeup-brush-roll. She has a detailed procedure with images. :-)

My First Portable Sewing Machine! Yay!

Mini Sewing Machine
I have always fancied sewing. And since I don't know how to operate my mom's dinosaur sewing machine, I hand sew. But sewing with bare hands really needs a handful of patience. So I decided to buy my own sewing machine that I can practice into. I looked for an "inexpensive" machine that is not so complicated to use so I could start with the basics. (Yeah, I looked for an inexpensive one so it would not be that to hard let it go in case I break it while I experiment on it.) :-)

This little sweet costs less than Php 1,000.00 ($23.00) and I get to enjoy the fun of sewing. It's about 3lbs and it comes with a pedal (yes it does). Although it only does 1 stitch (straight stitch), it's still worth it. I already tried doing some alteration and repairs, and I'm satisfied with it.

Happy sewing to me! :-)

Kath who? 😄

Hi, I'm Kath! Thanks for stopping by.

When I was a kid, my mom used to sew clothes and random stuffs. Since then, I have fancied sewing. So I started surfing the net for cool stuffs to make; from cool purses to cute skirts. I'm into crafty details so stuff like these bustle around my head. I love doing random stuff. I always have my hands busy doing something crafty since I was a kid. But guess what? I don't draw well and my handwriting is odd.

Aside from sewing, I love the outdoors! I always crave to get drained by life's tricks and adventures. I love to travel and chase nature. I believe being into a place makes you a part of the place. I guess I love being a part of something. I also believe that a paradise wouldn't be a paradise at all without you being into it with the people you love. That's why I don't travel alone. Which, ironically, I would love to experience. Maybe just to know myself and find out a different vantage point of what paradise is.

I love books. I know this would sound morbid, but I swear if a book tells a story about some couple who loved each other so dearly but wouldn't end up being together because the other half dies of cancer or an accident, or a story that tells about a family that suffers and a father has to sacrifice something and blah blah blah, it is my kind of book. I know! Whatever makes me cry, I'm love with it. So I'm happy Nicholas Sparks was born.

Inspired by blog posts I see and some crafty ideas from Pinterest, I started this blog to keep me busy and productive. I'm a beginner and I don't know where this would lead but I'd love to hear from you if you can suggest and help me in any way.

Filled with love,
Kath ❤️
